Claire Fleming is currently in her first year of the Master in Fine Arts Program at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is studying costume production while serving as a draper for
PlayMakers Repertory Company. Her most recent projects include draping on
The Importance of Being Earnest and
Nicholas Nickleby.
Before beginning her graduate studies, Claire worked professionally with Childsplay Inc.,
The Marriott Theater, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, and Triad Stage. She has also worked with
the tours of
The Lion King and
Mamma Mia!. Claire received her BA in Theatre
Arts from Furman University in 2003.

Marian A. Smith Scholarship Award
For Graduate Study in Costume Design and/or Technology
Rules: The amount of the award is $2,300 to a student pursuing a graduate degree in costume design and/or technology.
1. In order to apply for the Marian A. Smith Award, the applicant must: (a) have completed undergraduate work at an institution within the SETC region no later than August of the year applying; and (b) be entering a regionally accredited graduate school for costume design and/or costume technology for the first time.
2. Applications and all supporting materials are due not later than:
January 21, 2011.
3. In order to receive the Marian A. Smith Award, the award winner must: (a) enter a regionally accredited graduate school for costume design and/or costume technology as a full-time student; and (b) be duly enrolled during
the summer or fall term following the convention at which the award is announced.
4. Up to three applicants may be selected as finalists on the basis of their portfolio materials and recommendations as the candidates for the award. They will be notified by February 1st of the year.
5. The selected candidates must be present at the SETC Spring Convention for an interview with the Committee. SETC will offer limited travel assistance. The interview is the final step in
selecting the winner of the award.
6. The winner of the Marian A. Smith Award will be announced and presented at the Saturday evening Awards Banquet of the SETC Spring Convention.
7. Upon suitable notification to the SETC Executive Director that the candidate has entered a regionally accredited graduate school as specified above, the award will be released.

9. The selected applicants will also be asked to bring a portfolio to the interview at SETC.
