2010 High School
New Play Winner
Shades of Light
Jared Elinger
Two high school upperclassmen who are the opposites in nearly every way are paired to work on a biology lab. Painful truths are revealed and issues of bullying, guilt, and responsibility are explored against the metaphoric backdrop of studying ideal conditions for plant growth and why some species give up the struggle to live.

Are you a high school student who writes? Or perhaps you're a teacher who works with aspiring playwrights?
The Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) Playwriting Committee has created a playwriting contest just for high school students. The winning playwright receives a $250 prize and a subsidy to attend the annual SETC convention in March with an adult chaperone. At the convention, the play will be given a staged reading followed by a talkback.
Who's Eligible: High school student playwrights who currently reside in one of the 10 states in the SETC region are eligible. These states include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
